It is located at a distance of 197 km from the north-east of Jabalpur and has been christened after an ancient fort in the area. Earlier, Bandhavgarh National Park Madhya Pradesh, India served as a hunting reserve of the royal family of Rewa and it is here where the famous White Tigers of Rewa were first discovered. The tiger is the most noted resident of this national park that covers an area of 542.40-sq-kms.

The grasslands that dot this park are home to large herds of chinkara (Indian gazelle), nilgai (blue bull), chausingha (four-horned antelope) and wild boar. The best way of spotting a tiger is by going on an Elephant Safari through this park.

Other wildlife attractions of Bandhavgarh National Park Madhya Pradesh, India are blackbucks, ratel, porcupine, small Indian civet, palm squirrel, lesser bandicoot rat, the jungle cat, fox, hyena, jackal and the two primate species of rhesus macaque and the Hanuman langur. The best time to spot Gaur or the Indian bison in this park is during March and April. Some reptile species that populate this park are cobras, karaits, vipers, ratsnakes, pythons, lizards and turtles.
