Kanha National Park India

Kanha National Park India

A trip to Kanha National Park India is a must for anyone, who has read “Jungle Book", the famous novel written by Rudyard Kipling, which was inspired by this very national park. Declared as a National Park in the year 1955, Kanha National Park India was designated as a tiger reserve under the Project Tiger Scheme in the year 1974. The rare hard ground Swamp Deer called Barasingha found in this park is its chief attraction and the stringent conservation programs undertaken by Kanha National Park India to bring this rare species of barasingha back from the brink of extinction are really commendable.

Kanha National Park India sprawls over an area of more than 940 sq km and is covered by dense forests of sal and bamboo trees interspersed by grasslands and gurgling streams. Chital, sambar, wild boar, langur, tiger, leopard, jungle cat, sloth bear, wild dog, gaur, chow singha, sloth bear, barasingha, porcupine, gray langurs, mongoose, hyena, jungle cat and black buck are some of the most commonly found animal species in this park. Apart from exploring the flora and fauna of Kanha National Park, you can also visit the Kanha Museum at this park that displays artifacts related to the tribal culture and traditions that are still prevalent in some parts of the state of Madhya Pradesh.

The best time to visit this park is between the months of April - June and November – January as the park remains closed from July to Mid-November due to the monsoons.
